Imagine foraging for local produce in St Ouen's Bay, a favourite for local chefs, with the rhythmic murmur of the tide as your soundtrack. Or, wait for the sun to set and discover a beguiling night-time spectacle. Watch as the beach illuminates with an eerie glow, emitting from strange creatures – this is the bioluminescent beach, once known only to the local fishermen. During the day, don’t miss the chance to explore Jersey’s National Park, where long wistful walks take you through truly exquisite landscapes.
Hey, I’m Kazz Padidar and I run Wild Adventures. Jersey really inspired my interest in the outdoors from a young age. I grew up on my Grandma’s farm, riding down to Grouville Fountain to fetch fresh water and playing in the local woods. I used to head to Green Island frequently to forage in the rock pools, picking blackberries on my way home.
This early start led me to work on conservation projects around the world, working with local tribes and learning about sustainability and diverse natural environments. But Jersey was still home; after training as an outdoor adventure instructor abroad, I set up Wild Adventures in Jersey. The unique landscape is as varied as any I’ve visited across the world. Our wild habitats, both coastal and inland, offer an abundance of foraging opportunities in a relatively small area. And that’s pretty unique to Jersey, to have all these different wild areas, where different types of plants grow and animals hide, all pretty close together. Our natural larder is a real treat and one that many can be totally oblivious to; the skills I share, each visitor can take them home too. But it all starts on this beautiful rock!
In Jersey, head out at sunrise and cycle along the pretty green lanes of the east coast, accompanied by gorgeous views as you hug the beaches and breeze past old castles. Or, for something a little more adventurous, head out on the waves on a “surfari”, where a local guide will show you where to catch the best waves. Ease yourself into the water with a spot of sea kayaking, taking in the remote and beautiful islands of Les Ecrehous. Round off your day by immersing yourself in Jersey’s forests, where amongst the towering pines you can reconnect with nature and give yourself the chance to rebalance.
Hey, we’re Lisa and Rik, and together we run 9 by 5 Adventures.
Jersey is a giant grown-up playground, where you can embark on gruelling runs, mammoth rides and other crazy challenges. We both have lived in Canada in the past, but nothing really beats Jersey; with cliff paths, beaches and the sea right on our doorstep, why would we ever leave for good? It’s the perfect training ground and escape for us, with hundreds of miles of quiet lanes and trail networks so easily accessible just out of our front door. We both love adventuring in the outdoors, from mountain biking to triathlons, wild swims and trail running.
9 by 5 Adventures offers biking and trail running tours of Jersey’s rich and varied wilderness. We can fully tailor an adventure to your tastes – plus, Jersey is so diverse that that naturally helps too! It’s a real pleasure to show off this place to visitors. Seeing their faces when we turn a corner on the bikes to see a stunning view, or scale some steps on the north coast, that’s our biggest thrill. People are often shocked when they visit Jersey. When they fly in from the UK over St Ouens Bay and see the waves, white sands and rolling dunes, they really can’t believe it only took them 40 minutes to get there. The peace and tranquillity that can be found on our tiny island never fails to impress.
Start your journey along the island’s craggy coastline, where cliffs plunge to the sea and create a playground of wild adventure. Coasteering will see you climbing, scrambling, swimming and diving along Jersey’s beautiful cliffs, giving you an unbeatable natural high. Further out to sea, you can try island-hop yoga, with a boat trip to remote beaches that promise yogi serenity like no other. Inland, take a moment for yourself in beguiling surroundings. Jersey’s Botanic Gardens are a beautiful hideaway for a bit of me-time, amongst rare flora and fauna and eye-catching landscaped gardens.
I am Rich Stevens, and I run a RIB charter company Jersey Seafaris, taking people out on the sea exploring the coastline and offshore islands of Jersey.
I’m a Jersey ‘bean’, born and raised on the rock! I have always been in or near the sea, growing up sailing and exploring. At only nine miles by five, Jersey can seem small but it has an extensive coastline which changes dramatically every six hours. Jersey Seafaris has been operating for eight years and we are still finding new spots every year.
I feel immensely lucky to be doing a job that I love. No day is the same; we have so many types of Seafaris to very different destinations – all dependent on the winds and the tides and what people want to see. Putting smiles on customers faces has to be the best bit of the job; last year one guy managed to do a day trip from Berlin via London just to get to the Ecrehous and see dolphins.
For me, Jersey is an island that punches above its weight. In just 20 minutes you can reach France. The proximity can be seen around the island – it has a touch of French flair, mixed with incredible scenery, fascinating history around every corner, and a food scene that keeps getting better – what’s not to love!
Discover the island life with a stay at the Radisson Blu Waterfront Hotel, in a luxurious superior room with gorgeous sea views. For two nights, you and a loved one can experience Jersey’s beautiful outdoors and rebalance, with direct flights from any UK airport ready to whisk you to your escape.
