Capri

Capri, that drop-dead gorgeous rock swimming in the Bay of Naples, is imbued with all the luxury and panache of nearby Amalfi. If anything, it can feel even more exclusive. The sublime coastal scenery, all white cliffs and picture-perfect, hidden-away coves covered in smartly striped parasols, are the preserve of exclusive Beach Clubs and bejewelled yachters, probably. Elegant villas flank the hillsides, connected by twisting roads that offer some of the most stunning views across the coast.

Try fresh seafood and the eponymous Caprese salad as you lunch at Da Gelsomina, L’Olivo, Il Riccio and the romantic Il Geranio. Of course the food here is sublime, the clientele expect nothing less than perfection. So long as you’re not day-tripping from Sorrento or Naples, relish the opportunity to spritz in the Piazzetta, where you can spy the strutting, glittering couples heading for their evenings in Capri.
