Marrakech welcomed us with a unique mixture of tradition and modernity, of lively hustle and bustle and quiet retreats. Our first day took us right into the middle of this fascinating world - from the winding alleys of the souks to hidden oases of peace. Colours, scents and sounds merged into an experience that touched all the senses.

After a short drive through Marrakech, we reached the Bô Riad - an oasis of silence in the middle of the lively chaos. As soon as we checked in, we were drawn to the labyrinth of souks. Colourful fabrics blew in the wind, shimmering glass reflected the sunlight and ornate ceramics piled up in bright patterns. The air was a mix of fragrant spices, sweet fruits and freshly baked bread, interspersed with the tart notes of the tanneries. Traders called for attention, scooters meandered through the crowd. The soundscape of loud babble of voices, rattling engines and traditional music made the experience even more intense. A melting pot of light, movement and fascinating photo motifs.
After the hustle and bustle of the souks, we found a moment of peace at Le Jardin Secret. The chirping of birds, the gentle splashing of fountains and the dance of light between orange and lemon trees made this garden a magical retreat. Here we could pause, enjoy the beauty of nature and take a break in the charming café (tip: always have cash with you, card payment is usually not accepted). A look at the history of the garden revealed its fascinating past: once a magnificent palace garden, forgotten for decades and lovingly restored only a few years ago. Marrakech is full of contrasts - and that's exactly what makes the city so unique.
Just in time for sunset, we visited the Nomad - a modern restaurant hidden in the winding streets of the medina. The effort was rewarded: On the stylish roof terrace, a breathtaking view over the city awaited us, which shone in golden tones at dusk. While Marrakech glowed in the warm evening light, we enjoyed delicious, generous portions of traditional dishes with a modern twist. The atmosphere was relaxed and magical at the same time. A perfect end to a day full of adventure. A tip for the evening: Even if the sun is hot during the day, it can get surprisingly cool later - a warm jacket is worth taking into the evening.
Our second day was marked by the fascinating contrasts of Marrakech. The hustle and bustle of the souks and the silence of secret gardens, traditional flavours and modern touches: if you let yourself drift, you'll discover a new story in every corner - and countless photo opportunities.
Our breakfast on the roof terrace of the Bô Riad was a treat for the senses: the scent of mint tea was in the cool morning air while we enjoyed oven-fresh bread, sweet jam and Moroccan pancakes. The first rays of sunshine bathed Marrakech in golden light. Well fortified, we followed our guide Mohammed to the Jewish Quarter and on to the magnificent Bahia Palace. Through the narrow streets of the souks we reached the Medersa Ben Youssef, a masterpiece of Islamic architecture. Finally, we admired the Almoravid Koubba, a fascinating relic from the 12th century that made us even more aware of Marrakech's rich history.
For lunch we stopped at La Famille - a hidden paradise with a green courtyard that offers daily changing vegetarian dishes. Between lush plants, we relaxed with homemade vegetarian delicacies: dips with fresh bread, flatbread with aromatic toppings and tagliatelle with cream cheese, dates, nuts and orange peel, accompanied by refreshing orange blossom lemonade. The handmade ceramics and textiles in the adjacent shop tempted you to browse. Afterwards, we quenched our thirst for coffee with delicious iced lattes at the Mandala Society - a minimalist café whose cosy interior invites you to linger.
Getting a taxi was a bit of an adventure, but finally we were at the gates of the Jardin Majorelle. The interplay of deep cobalt blue, lush greenery and golden sunlight transformed the garden into a living painting. Originally created by Jacques Majorelle, later preserved by Yves Saint Laurent, this place exudes a timeless elegance. We strolled past exotic plants, babbling fountains and shady paths while enjoying the welcome peace and quiet from the hustle and bustle of the medina. Tip: It's best to book tickets in advance - tickets cannot be purchased on site.
After a last tour of the Jardin Majorelle, we ended the day at My Kawa. The lively café just down the road provided the perfect place for a relaxing break. We chose a fragrant tagine with chicken and lemon and a vegetarian version with tender braised vegetables - both deliciously seasoned and traditionally served. In addition, a homemade peach iced tea refreshed us. With the city was slowly bathed in golden evening light, the atmosphere was particularly special.
Gentle sea breezes, golden rays of sunshine and the vastness of the Atlantic Ocean - the third day of our escape took us from the bustling alleys of Marrakech to the relaxed coastal city of Essaouira. On the way there, impressive landscapes, culinary discoveries and exciting insights into traditional crafts awaited us.
